Tassie - Burnie & Hobart

During our time in Tasmania we spent a few days before and after walking the Overland Track exploring other parts of Tasmania, attending a wedding, and hanging out with family.

After a chaotic one night layover in Sydney (so we could stash our bikes - thanks Deon!) we arrived in Launceston sans luggage. Virgin Australia assured us they would have our bags delivered that evening so off we went to Burnie to stay with my auntie Sue.

Amazingly our luggage did arrive that night & we could settle in at Sue's for a few days site seeing around Burnie.
Despite a little bit of drizzle we climbed the very steep 143m to the top of the 'Nut' in Stanley

We were then off hiking and first stop after our return to civilization was Tasmania's capital; Hobart. Our accommodation was the historic Customs House Hotel, and after making ourselves presentable we headed off on the ferry to Damo & Hilary's wedding at beautiful Peppermint Bay.

Highlights of the wedding included a paua starter, some spellbinding live music courtesy of Damo's dad and his partner, and good company.

My cousin Nick and his fiance Hayley were then kind enough to have us for a couple of nights at their place across the Hobart harbour. They joined us as I settled my post-hike chicken parmigiana cravings at dinner with my other cousin Sam and his partner Sarah.

It was good to have a few days to explore Hobart. The Mona (Museum of Old and New Art) was a very entertaining spot & the food around the city was great - We didn't get time to visit Port Arthur so we'll be back some time!

Thanks again Sue and Nick & Hayley!
